When traveling dont instantly thnk that you have to take a flight. Sure many of the options take much longer, and sometimes there isnt much of a price differnece, but it makes for greener transportation and adventures of a life time. Next trip you make look into Trains and Busses. Amtrak has several deals, esspecailly if you are going on long tours of several towns. Also if you are a student or militraty you can sighn up for studentadvantage card and get a 20% off discount. That will save you a bundle on the Multi- Ride Tickets.
Mega Bus is also a great service for extreemly lopriced Bus Rides. Right now they only serve New England, the Mid-West. and the UK. All rates start at $1 plus a $1 booking fee. Make sure to order as soon as advanced, the prices go up by the day. You will most likely get a ticket from anywhere to $2.00 to $35 depending on when you get it.
Greyhound works as well, but I havent found that many great deals. If your going far, take a train, but if you are only going regional I suggest looking into local bus lines. A failry big chain is China Town Bus. They are featured in nearly every big city, and will take you anywhere in the region. They have great rates anywhere from $10-40 depending on how soon and how far your going.
3. Ride Share Programs
There are a few sites out there that feture rideshares. Generally you can find others to tag along with to a near by big city, or event such as a big Jam Band Festival. There in never a shortage of people looking to meet other cool people and to split the gas.
Craigslist has a great Ride Share message board on their site. You can find people who are looking for other riders and you can even post that you are looking as well. The only thing with this option is that it is hard to plan far ahead, many of the postings are for the next weekend so look especially for last minute/last change travel.

Bicyle Touring has become more and more populare along with the recent rise in Bike Riders. Now this takes a lot of research and planning, and is in no way easy, but is the most rewarding bad ass way to travel. There are many signs of slowing up of the economy in Ireland as it is now officially in recession.
I have noticed on my visits this year that that there not so many 09 registrations on cars and in fact when I was in Dublin in early March took four days to see nine new vehicles with 09 number. A year earlier and three months into the new year there would have been hundreds of 08s on the roads.
House prices have fallen dramatically and it is now fairly easier to get hold of a basic plumber or builder with flyers being put through front doors once again advertising their businesses.
The media is full of stories about unemployment rising, however you wouldn’t notice a difference in some of the restaurants in one of the main approaches from Dublin Airport to the centre via Drumcondra.
As part of a walk I give my dog when staying with relatives a walk down part of Upper Drumcondra Road and whether it is early evening or later the restaurants look busy. Last night was no exception. The 22nd June, a Monday evening. We booked a table at an Italian Restaurant for 6.45. The restaurant has been there for a few years and when we went in there were several diners in there. They might have been a mixture of the left over customers from the “early bird” specials 5-7 eating a two course meal for €22.95 or starting out for the evening.
Other establishments along the road also run their early bird specials. What is surprising me is the prices these establishments are still charging. I appreciate they are in a suburb of North Dublin, however the advertised prices look no different to a year ago, but if people are prepared to pay and they clearly look like they are then the restaurant owners can continue to charge high prices.
Dublin has a reputation of being one of the more expensive European cities to visit and if the quality is there, I might not mind it so much.
The Italian restaurant was expensive. Three people €120 including a tip. A few years back when the euro was weak against sterling that would have been around £70, today that is nearly £115 coming from my pocket.
My son had a pizza €17 for a basic one, when he asked for oil to go on top he was presented with a small eggcup size container with a small drop in. They should have in fact had a bottle that they would have left on the table when delivering the pizza. They made a great song and dance of offering black pepper from a large mill that was not working well, but other basics were missing. Back in North London, my son eats regularly at an excellent Italian establishment, getting larger better wood oven pizzas for lot money and more flavour.
I had Lasagne served with a side salad, lettuce and tomato covered in mayonnaise. What is the problem making a fine green salad with tomatoes, olives etc? What they are serving up is probably easier.
What about some bread sticks, Italian bread, small chocolate or biscuit with the coffee for example, or better quality napkins and not those cheap paper ones?
We left before 9.00 and the place was filling up well, maybe the restaurant need some real competition. A few weeks ago in Italy five of us had a great meal in Italy near the French border. €150 including a couple of bottles of wine plus bottled water. That place was also full, however you were getting value for money and quality.

Many UK visitors are not coming because of the euro-sterling exchange rate. Although there are cheap flights, car hire is fairly expensive and bringing your own car is very costly compared with taking it over to France. The Irish Tourist board is trying to encourage more Scandinavians, Dutch and German tourists this year.
However they won’t return id prices are too high. Last weekend I was charged €4.90 for a pint of Kilkenny, this was in a hotel in Malahide near Dublin that I had been going to for some 30 years. Their carvery price is now €13 per person and OK. They must be making good money however as they were in the position to run the central heating radiators and air conditioning at the same time.

Also of interest are the Cathedral of Saint Anastasia and the Roman Forum.
The Archaeological Museum is well worth visiting as is the Sea Organ on Zadar’s Riva which works with the motion of the waves and 35 pipes to create music.
When you are navigating your way around, having a car spares you from making the 15 minute walk from city centre to the bus and train stations. It is also far more convenient as taxis have to be called (970) and can take up to 20 minutes from the call to arrive. This can be even more in the busy summer season. The trains are also slow and take a long time to get anywhere, though the scenery is great.
Other transport options in Zadar are to take the large Jadrolinja ferries which run every few days up and down the coast between Rijeka and Dubrovnik. They stop off at ports including Zadar as well as various Croatian islands along the way. There are also daily ferries throughout the summer from Ancona in Italy. It is also possible to Rent a boat and explore the stunning surrounding islands, especially Kornati.
Zadar is not a long car journey from the amazing Plitvice National Park. Plitvice National Park was put onto the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1979 to protect its spectacularly beautiful system of 16 interlinking lakes and wonderful forest. Having been inhabited by all sorts of races including Thracians and Celts the park became a major tourist attraction in the 1990s. However, Plitvice National Park, which is filled with gorgeous turquoise coloured lakes, was also where many mines were laid during the 1990 war.
There is an evening flight from Zagreb to Zadar. During the summer seasons there are also various tourist flights from several European cities. Cheap flights exist but may be hard to find. Ryanair has added low cost flights from London Stansted, Edinburgh and Dublin to Zadar.
In terms of food the Kornat restaurant near the harbour serves excellent Mediterranean cuisine. You can also go to the adjacent Restaurant Nika, beside the harbour in the Puntamika district, which offers good food and service in beautiful settings for low prices.
Some recommended places to drink in Zadar are The Garden which was opened by UB40 drummer James Brown and The Arsenal, a seventeenth century Venetian naval warehouse which is now a restaurant, bar and night club.
For those on a budget there is the Youth Hostel Obala kneza Trpimira in Borik, while mid range accommodation consists of the Hotel Kolovare in the city center and the three star Hotel Adriatic to the south of Zadar. As with car hire it is always a good idea to book your hotel well ahead of time as Zadar can get very busy during the summer months of June, July and August.
